Mission
Karlstadt Theological Seminary exists to form scholars, ministers, and global Christian leaders through rigorous theological education grounded in the historic Reformed faith. We pursue academic excellence without apology, believing that the life of the mind is an act of worship.

We envision a world in which every serious student of theology — whether in Amsterdam or Accra, Buenos Aires or Manila, Port-au-Prince or Johannesburg — has access to the highest standard of theological education. Confessional Statement
What We Believe
Karlstadt Theological Seminary is a confessional institution. The following articles represent the doctrinal commitments that govern all teaching, research, and institutional life. All faculty and administrators are required to affirm these articles upon appointment.
Holy Scripture
We hold that the sacred Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God — the only sufficient, certain, and authoritative rule of all saving knowledge, faith, and obedience. Scripture is verbally inspired, inerrant in the original autographs, and infallible in all that it affirms.
The Holy Trinity
We hold that there is one God, eternally existing in three persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — each fully God, co-equal in essence, distinct in person, and united in will and purpose.
The Person and Work of Christ
We hold that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, who became truly human without ceasing to be truly divine. He lived a sinless life, died as a substitutionary atonement for sinners, rose bodily from the dead, ascended to the right hand of the Father, and will return in glory.
Salvation by Grace Alone
We hold that sinners are justified by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Election is unconditional, atonement is definite, grace is irresistible, and the saints are preserved to the end. We affirm the doctrines of grace as summarized in the historic Reformed confessions.
The Church
We hold that the church is the body of Christ, gathered by the Spirit through the preaching of the Word and the administration of the sacraments. The church is one, holy, catholic, and apostolic — and is governed by elders according to the pattern of the New Testament.
Governance Model
How We Are Governed
Karlstadt is governed by a three-tier structure that ensures confessional fidelity, academic integrity, and institutional accountability at every level.
Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees holds ultimate fiduciary and confessional authority. It is composed of 15 members — theologians, ministry leaders, and institutional governors — who serve staggered three-year terms. The Board appoints the President, approves the budget, and safeguards the confessional identity of the institution.
Academic Senate
The Academic Senate is the faculty's governing body for all matters of academic policy, curriculum, and faculty appointments. It is chaired by the Provost and composed of all full-time faculty members. The Senate approves degree programs, sets academic standards, and oversees the peer-review journal.
Faculty Councils
Each academic school is governed by a Faculty Council composed of the school's faculty members and chaired by the Dean. Councils manage curriculum development, student assessment, and research priorities within their school.

Our Path to Global Recognition
Karlstadt is pursuing a comprehensive global accreditation strategy designed to achieve the highest levels of academic recognition in the United States, Europe, and internationally.
ATS Candidacy & SACSCOC Application
Achieve ATS Candidate status and submit the SACSCOC Level V application. Establish institutional effectiveness systems, faculty credentialing, and student learning outcomes assessment.
ATS Accreditation & SACSCOC Candidacy
Achieve full ATS accreditation and SACSCOC Candidate status. Develop the self-study documentation and institutional portfolio required for full regional accreditation.
Full U.S. Regional Accreditation
Achieve full SACSCOC accreditation. This milestone enables federal financial aid eligibility and full recognition by U.S. academic institutions.
European & International Recognition
Pursue ESG-compliant quality assurance review, QAA recognition for UK degree equivalency, and CHEA recognition for international academic partnerships.

Theological Education for Today's World — Karlstadt is an active institution with a presence across six continents: Europe, Oceania, Asia, Africa, Central Asia, and the Americas. Our strategy for sustained global reach operates on four pillars.
International Partnerships
We maintain active academic partnerships and ministry networks across Europe (Germany, Netherlands, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal), Oceania (Australia, New Zealand), Asia (India, Philippines), Central Asia (Kazakhstan), Africa (South Africa, Ghana, Senegal, Mozambique), and throughout Latin America and the Caribbean — enabling joint degrees, faculty exchange, and shared research programs.
Regional Study Centers
While fully online, Karlstadt will establish regional study centers in key global cities — São Paulo, Mexico City, Johannesburg, Manila, and Amsterdam — providing local community, library access, and examination facilities for students across our active regions.
Multilingual Resources
Core course materials are available in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese — the primary languages of our active student communities across Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Africa — with further language development underway.
Scholarship Program
The Karlstadt Global Scholarship Fund provides full and partial scholarships to qualified students from the Global South — including our active communities in Brazil, Colombia, Ghana, India, the Philippines, and across the Caribbean — ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent access to elite theological education.
